ntel is ‘ntirely committed to delivering cutting-edge broadband-based solutions that utilise the best technology and this is why we use the SAT-3 technology. To learn more about SAT-3, please see the information below.
History: SAT-3 is the first undersea cable that connects West Africa to Europe, South Africa and Asia. As a unified SAT-3/WASC/SAFE cable system, it has been in operation since 2002 and for over 12 years, it has provided optimum network solutions to leading telecommunications companies across the world.
Funding and Ownership: SAT-3 is funded and owned by a consortium of 48 foremost telecoms operators from different parts of the world. Please see the table below for the full list of these telecoms operators.
The SAT-3/WASC/SAFE submarine cable system boasts of a capacity that trumps that of other cable systems. Following an upgrade that boosted the cable system from 420Gbps to 920Gbps, in the northern segments, and 340Gbps to 800Gbps in the southern segments, this already-impressive capacity was doubled further, resulting in a capacity so large that it can comfortably cater to the every organization’s demand for fast internet connectivity, data-hungry applications, and high-quality video-on-demand, regardless of the size of the organization.
With the SAT-3/WASC/SAFE cable system, our customers can conveniently explore a world of more connectivity and value; the link from Europe to South Africa has a total capacity of 120 Gigabits, that affords over 5.8 million telephone calls and 1.45 million 64kb/s data circuits or broadcast over 2,304 television channels while the link from South Africa to Malaysia has a total capacity of 130 Gigabits, affording the potential to carry 6.28 million simultaneous telephone calls and 1.57 million 64kb/s data circuits or 2,496 television channels.
SAT-3 has about 17 landing points in 15 major countries of the world (see table below for the full list). This provides a unique opportunity for organisations like banks, telecoms operators, oil companies, FMCGs, IT companies with regional offices and investors around the world; facilitating seamless exchange of information and smoother operations. With this coverage, SMEs can also easily access global markets for the necessary support and funding to expand their businesses.
Efficiency and Effectiveness
Unlike many other cable systems, SAT-3 is comprised of submarine cables. This allows it carry more than 80% of all international voice, fax and internet communications; generally offering better efficiency, reliability and security than satellites.
Amongst all cable operators, SAT-3 has the lowest latency. This is because of its direct connections at landing points in different countries particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to SAT-3, connections across countries were clumsy. If someone in Lagos had to communicate with another person in Ghana, for instance, other existing cable systems would route the data traffic from Lagos-London-Ghana because they do not have direct connections with Ghana thus resulting in delayed transmission of messages, time lapses during Skype calls and delays in loading web pages amongst other inconveniences.
Thanks to SAT-3, our customers can connect real time with countries in West Africa, South Africa, Europe and even Asia without delay. SAT-3 affords guaranteed response time across multiple communication channels whether machine-to-machine, mobile or web and with such seamless connections, businesses and organizations can easily and successfully satisfy their customers by providing better services; smoother payment gateways, faster turnaround time of financial transactions, better IT connections, lower cost of operations, etc.
