ntel gets NCC approval to roll out 4G services

The Nigerian Communications Commission has given the management of ntel permission to proceed with the roll out of its fourth generation Long Term Evolution network for commercial use in Lagos and Abuja. The go-ahead order was subsequent to the company’s completion of agreements with channel partners, and barely three days after ntel reactivated the SAT3 submarine international fibre optic cable. The Chief Executive Officer, ntel, Kamar Abass, made this disclosure in Lagos on Thursday. He said ahead of the April 8, 2016 roll out date, “The company has already deployed about 600 Base Transceiver Stations in the two cities with thousands of sites to be rolled out as the network expands. “ntel has deployed LTE Advanced Technology, the latest 4G technology, with multi-antenna MIMO sites.” Abass stated that before now, the NCC had approved all licence authorisations necessary for the company to launch its Voice over LTE network using next generation telecommunications. In order to ensure seamless network connectivity, the ntel CEO said 200 kilometres of fibre optic transmission cables had been laid in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

We are rolling out physical sites in three cities on our 900MHz and 1800MHz bands to launch Voice over LTE come April 8, 2016. We have signed agreements with trade partners and fulfilled all licence authorisations and payments, and we are up-to-date. There are no impediments to our launch, he added.

ntel is Nigeria’s newest entrant into the telecommunications space, having acquired the assets of the defunct Nigerian Telecommunications Limited

Abass said Natcoms Investments Limited, the parent company of ntel, had projected over $1bn investments over the next four years.
